The Wedding Gourd

This Gourd was made in one night, with a vary in depth plan.  I started with my gourd already stained a walnut color and worked out from there.  It was alot of fun and just received a new shipment of gourds (Thank you Susie & Rod)   The creative well is getting deeper.  Each gourd is one of a kind, each one has it's own personality and it shines through with a little elbow grease.  On to my next set of gourds.

ArtPrize Update

Yes it's true Burningtree Studio will be at Artprize.  You can see my work at Sundance Bar & Grill in City Center!  Love's in the Tree's will be present and possibly a few other's as well.  On to more fun things, my lavender sachet's are made with recycled materials and are completely reusable.  I love the bicycle gear window's so much that I am working on some clothing and purse's to match!  Designing clothing to wear to Artprize will be one of my other goals for the rest of the summer.  Sometime's it's hard to be distinguished with all the top Artist's competing, and for someone as small and usually as quiet as me I need something to catch the eye.  My sketches are positively eye catching, so let's hope the finished products do so as well.  As always feel free to contact me for commissioned work in any field.  This summer is for sewing, ink and photography.  Yet there is always room for side projects!  My commissioned work that is a twist on an ink drawing from the 50's is coming along nicely, though has been a trick to try out someone else's style.  Oh yes and the Jewelery Tree pictured with my sachet's hanging from it is made to order with your choice of color for the beading.  Happy Art Hunting!

Finished Tree Of Life

Tree of Life
Heart

Heart in the wind

Key to your Heart

Owl at roost

Signature

This project was a wonderful test of my creative problem solving skills.  I struggled a bit at the beginning as I worked my mind in one direction.  I explored tree's from many different mediums.  I have a large oil painting in the works, which is growing very slowly.  The cloth in this piece came from my life.  Bit's and pieces of treasures I have been keeping.  Things that help me remember a person or a time in my life.  All sewn together in to one growing tree of life.  I am sure to add to it in the future as well.  The wheel's are already spinning on further tree developments.

The Collection

After much work and toil, I have a nice selection of work including some of my favorite tree's framed and ready to go.  The last photo shoot for my large tree is hovering on the horizon.  The weather has foiled any outdoor attempts so we will do a large studio shoot to see if we can get the whole collection in one shot.   On the photography front, I have been steadily moving along.  I can't help but share the colors and images that I find so pleasing.  Each picture has inspired me in some way, if I had the space for the entire lot of photography to hang in one place that would be a beautiful thing to see.  So for now I will leave you with some of my favorites.

Art Prize Here I Come!

After many many sketches and plans, and even buying materials for one such idea, I have settled my brain on something very different than my original plans.  To say simply I have brought or am bringing one of my beautiful trees to life.   This is quite a process and like Frankenstine before me, I have made some mistakes, or given myself new problems to creatively solve.  As I am want to do, I have risen to the occasion.  Bring it on I say, Bring it on.   I started with a canvas.  It is 36 X 48 inches, and I am working in landscape.  This idea was only partially formed when I started so my only thought at first was I want a yellow sky.  So I in a moment of texture dreaming wanted to use flat latex paint to achieve a soft velvet look to the sky...since I am attempting to bring this tree off the canvas, the feel of the whole painting should be considered.  So off I go to the first impulse and after painting two solid coats start getting excited about the next step which is my drops.  From way up on my ladder it's the first drop of acrylic wash, thicker than wash but close enough for explanation.  OK up on a ladder with apparatus and paint in hand, feeling very happy to be at this point.   I proceed to make a small test drop and to my astonishment the paint doesn't stick.  The Paint Does Not Stick!  So a small rant later, I am back in action,  paint brush in hand, I gesso the canvas, and as I do this I get another idea.  I need to build some of the tree up on the canvas to help it grow better when I get to the top.  So I add texture as many many coats of gesso are applied and again I am ready to paint.

I get out my acrylic wash again, and this time just a paintbrush to paint the sky yellow.  What do I get... crawly streaks.  Crawly Streaks!!!  I am not joking or exaggerating when I tell you I have been known to throw a fit every once in a while.  This was one such moment.  I fumed and fussed and let it dry and applied more coats, and still it crawls and barely sticks to the layer before it.  ARRRRGGGG!!!  Yes, the exclamation of frustration will be heard again in this house I tell you.   Having arrived at this improbable of situations, I decide that a drastic change is needed!  So as of now I am working on a large batik for the bottom portion of the painting.  I will then sew this to the freaking canvas, and from there the world is my oyster....I hope!  This is just a small step in a much larger design with many parts that all need to be individually constructed, so stay tuned.  This tree is only going up.

My world keeps growing...

Heart's in a swing
Set of 4 Coasters

Two in a Swing
Love under a winter's moon

I have been having great burst's of art speed, where the information flows through me and into what I am creating with the ease of water. Then there are times when I can hardly find enough creativity for craft time with the kids. What Gives?? I know it's that time of waiting for the supplies...the tedious time of...I can't do anything with out the last piece of the puzzle! Argggg...Waiting has always been my least favorite past time...unless I have a book to read. So as the feeling that time is slowing on purpose, adding to the paranoia that I'm stuck in some horrible time loop really seeps in...the mail will surely come.

The Tree's keep Growing and Flowing

This tree was made for a Baby Shower for a dear friend of mine.

"Love on the Line"
This continues to be one of my favorites.
Made with a color scheme chosen by my friend Suzie.

"Fall Bonsai"

I can't stop the growth of these tree's. They come from me as organic as tree's grow from the earth. Each tree is made with out a plan...all spontaneous and free flowing. Crow Quilled by hand, with a well and nib. There is nothing like dreaming at the moment the pen touches the paper. Letting the ink flow though me as much as from my pen and imagination.
